Personality?

Today Miss Gwen woke up and has been squealing all day. She has been smiling at people and when she went to the WW meeting with me today she sat in the chair next to me and played with her toy and made Gwen noises. What are Gwen noises? Well, today they were just excited non-squealing noises, but just coos at her toys and just generally wanting people to know that she was talking. I would say she wasn't disruptive (thank goodness for the Mommy & Me meeting!) but she was just acting cute. This made me realize how different she is acting today from yesterday. When I tried to lay her down for her 11am nap, she was smiling, talking to me and just generally being sweet. I just thought she was being cute, trying to charm me into playing with her instead of taking her nap. Boy, was I wrong! She cooed and squealed in the crib for about an hour which then turned to crying. I realized then that she was in no mood to nap, so I got her up and played with her, 30 minutes later I tried again, it is now 3:30 and that was 3.5 hrs ago. I think she might already be converted to the 1 nap per day. It seems a little early for that, but that is way more convenient for me than a 2 a day nap, where we are chained to the house all day and only have 2 hour windows of outside time. I really would eventually like to make her bed time later so she can have more quality Daddy time, so we might go to a 2 nap thing again, but I am definitely more of a play it by ear kind of a Mom than a we must have a schedule, don't know if you noticed. :) Well, I hear some chatting upstairs, so I must go get the little one.
I am posting some pictures from yesterday's play session. I think it is fun to watch her get the toys out of this thing. She gets so determined and then bangs them and explores them. I guess one day she will learn how to put them back in the slots. I also posted another video.

Avocado

Today Gwen took a 2.5 hrs nap. She went down without crying! Yesterday while I was at Church apparently Gwen was fussy and Eric put her down for a nap, after 10 minutes she slept 20 minutes. The only problem with the hardwood floors is that Gwen's toys apparently get lost.
Gwen playing with her toys.
I can't tell if Gwen likes avocado or not, but it sure makes for some good pictures, what do you think?

Gwen received a new hat, unfortunately, I didn't know how to put it on, but I figured it out, thanks to Reyna. I'll put another picture with the hat on correctly soon.
Eric came to visit. Gwen is apparently going through a phase where she is not particularly fond of strangers. Sorry Eric, so this is the only picture we got of them. Not a bad picture.

7 months

So today is Gwen's 7 month she's more than half way to her 1st birthday. She has definitely learned more this month. We are at a stage I have been waiting for, for a while. When you come near her and she wants to get up she puts up her arms! Yeah! Now I am patiently waiting for the lean, you know when she is in some one's arms and she wants to be held by someone else and she leans. I am teaching Gwen baby signs and I think she understands 'out', she will start jumping up and down excitedly if you say out (or if she is sitting, move her feet excitedly). She is still as cute as ever, and charming. She smiles and giggles a lot and provides Eric and I with much entertainment. Gwen is still happily in the distractable phase where if you move something out of sight range and replace it with something else she will forget. I am not looking forward to the phase where she becomes more stubborn. There is a clause to this though, if the item is not replaced with something better, then said item is whined about until a better object is found. Gwen is definitely into throwing things on the ground. She also watches it on the ground until it loses her interest. She still has a relatively short attention span. She still LOVES to put stuff in her mouth.

Gwen has always been a good stander and very strong, this month as brought Gwen pulling herself up some. The other day as we were readying the bath she actually scooted herself forward off Eric's lap, we were both like, wait, um what are you doing. Gwen has really come to love standing holding on to something. She especially loves naked baby time right before the bath. The maybe 5 minutes I allow her to stand at the bath tub naked always bring big smiles.
These past weeks have been cold. Today was the first day in a while that the temperature actually got above freezing. Since Gwen has been sick, I have been really bundling her almost to the point of overheating, I have to be fully dressed before I get her ready and in the car seat. We have purchased the next car seat she needs (since she is so large). Eric is chomping at the bit to put it in the car, but the beauty of the infant carrier is I can pull it out of the car and run like heck, into the store.
Gwen still gets sad, and since she has had this cold she has gotten rather clingy when she hungry/tired. (I think this is one of the best pictures I have ever taken, I just picture this as her mug shot, yet it somehow also looks fake to me.)Right now we are much happier sitting up than being on our belly, don't get me wrong, Gwen still likes being on her belly, but until she learns to crawl forward/not bat things away with her hands she gets very frustrated. When she is playing when she is sitting she often gets distracted by her toes, but really who doesn't get distracted by their toes? For sometime she has been doing this thing with her hand like she is a princess and waves, you know kind of like a wrist twisting. She often does this with toys also while she is studying them. Eric and I are still amazed at the amount of people that stop us and tell us how cute Gwen is, for about a minute Eric wondered if we could enter her into a contest and make some money, but then he remembered who he married and that it is not likely that I would enter Gwen in a photo contest/beauty pageant and become a stage Mom. But I say, we couldn't be happier with our sweet baby girl and hope that her sweet disposition will continue up through the coming months/years.So I guess all that is left to say is that the Grandmas were right, we ended up with a content baby, thank goodness. Stay tuned for the pictures of Gwen's first taste of avocado. I can't say whether she liked it or not, the jury is still out, but the pictures, hopefully will be priceless.
On a side note, welcome home Morgan, we are glad you are back safe and sound. Also Happy Birthday T! Oh and we have uploaded another video, maybe 2, I don't know the godfather is visiting and I might have some time to do more posting while he hangs out with Eric.

Yum, sweet potatoes

Today we tried sweet potatoes for the first time. This is what we think of it, not quite sure we are taking with it. But, I kept trying.
Ok, so finally I gave up with using the spoon, Gwen wanted to really try using the spoon.

As you can see, we got sweet potato every where, all over ourselves.
Finally I gave up with the bowl. Gwen appeared to want it more.

So now that I think about it, I am not quite sure she knows how to use the spoon.
We'll try again tomorrow. I have pears and avocado waiting in the wings.
Oh, I started my job. I don't have everything I need yet, but at least I can start billing hours.

New link

Since I received some positive responses from the video link, I have added to the link section called video, to celebrate I have added 2 videos!
Today is weigh-in day, I am down 1.6lbs! 28.4 to go! I might post more later today, but I am not going to make any promises!

Funny story

As you know Gwen has been sick for over a week. The Dr had recommended that we have her sleep on an incline, like in her car seat. I totally dismissed that idea because Gwen moves around so much she would not likely fall asleep. But then when I later talked to the nurse she recommended the swing, so I tried that, but that failed miserably, so I decided to roll up a towel and put under one side of the crib. Ok, so I know that is no genius idea, but it took over a week for it to dawn on me. When I went to pick up Gwen from her nap she had totally moved herself from the incline and made it into a decline! BRAT! So, I put a towel on the other end of the bed so now it looks like a U, but 50% of the time I think she is sleeping on a slight incline, not the decline and 50% of the time she is in the middle sleeping flat. I tell you she is a lot of fun!
I have decided to try posting videos. I have no idea how this will work, but I have had this thought for some time. One of my friends mentioned youtube.com and all though that is a good site, I am a little weirded out that anyone could easily view her video and it be downloaded all over the world. I don't know why that freaks me out when this blog is public, but it does. So I am going to try using photobucket. Let me know how this works for you. If I did this correctly the video should be linked here. (Click on the word here). You should enjoy a video of Gwen eating and trying to become more proactive about eating. Enjoy

I passed

Apparently there is nothing too terrible in my background that will prevent me from working, was anybody else nervous about that? Here are some more pictures. This first one is from Friday, I had given Gwen a break from eating since she has been sick, but we are back to eating. Gwen was also kind enough to pass her cold to me, she is suck a generous child. I do have to say with a cold or not it is still easy to get her to smile. Still as cute as ever, even if a little snotty.
Pictures from today. Gwen has always been a stander, but she has been standing and balancing herself more and more. Will she be pulling up soon, who knows?
More naked baby photos. Getting ready for her bath.
So excited for the bath.

We LOVE our bath.
